Device Networking Becomes Easier with Echelon's New Development ToolsBackward-Compatible Software Reduces Time-to-Market For LonWorks Products(ORLANDO, Fla. - October 18, 2000) - Today, at the LONWORLD2000T Conference and Exhibition, Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) provided some advanced information about its next generation of tools for developing LonWorks control networks. During his LONWORLD2000 keynote address, Echelon's chairman, president and CEO Ken Oshman announced that the new development tools will enter beta testing in June 2001 and will be backward compatible with existing tools and software. "The new tools will reduce the time required to create both open, interoperable devices and the configuration software used by network integrators," said Mr. Oshman. "The result will be faster time-to-market for LonWorks device manufacturers and reduced installation costs for network integrators. Customers with our current development tools will be able to purchase the new software at a discount." Ultimately, this means that Echelon's plans to network everyday devices can be implemented faster and more efficiently by customers and integrators. "Echelon has shipped development tools to thousands of device manufacturers," said Rich Blomseth, Echelon's product marketing manager for development tools. "With our next generation of development tools we will increase developer productivity, offer support for all current Microsoft Windows platforms, and reduce time-to-market. The result will be to accelerate the already fast-paced introduction of new, interoperable LonWorks devices." The new development tools will be based on Echelon's LNST network operating system, the standard platform for managing LonWorks networks, and on Echelon's LonMakerT Integration Tool. The LonMaker tool provides developers with an easy-to-use yet powerful environment for creating and testing development networks. Incorporating Microsoft Visio 2000 Technical Edition, the LonMaker tool provides a simple drag-and-drop interface for designing and installing LonWorks devices and networks. The NodeBuilder 3 Development Tool, the first of the next generation of development tools, will be available in beta release in June 2001. The NodeBuilder 3 software will be compatible with the current NodeBuilder 1.5 hardware, with the exception of the NodeBuilder 1.5 PCNSS network interface card. The NodeBuilder 3 software will compile Neuron C applications created for the current NodeBuilder 1.5 or LonBuilder 3.1 tools. The NodeBuilder 3 product will sell for $4,495, the same price as NodeBuilder 1.5. Existing NodeBuilder 1.5 and LonBuilder 3.1 customers will be able to buy the NodeBuilder 3 software for $1,495, which includes the $895 LonMaker Integration Tool. Prices are in US Dollars and are valid in North America. Pricing may vary in other regions.
