Circon Joins Echelon's Open Systems Alliance

Pioneer in LonWorks® Community Demonstrates Support for Multi-Vendor Product Communication

(VANCOUVER, Canada - April 17, 2001) - Today at the opening seminar of the 30-city Open Systems 2001 tour, Circon Systems Corporation and Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) announced that Circon has joined Echelon's Open Systems Alliance (OSA) Program. Circon offers a comprehensive family of LonWorks® products that fully integrates control of security, access, lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, energy management, and other major building functions. Circon markets its products worldwide through a network of over 120 system integration partners. As a member of the Alliance, Circon Systems will be able to co-brand its System Integrator partners as Circon LonWorks Integrators and Echelon OSA members.

The OSA Program brings together manufacturers, integrators, resellers, and other companies that are working to promote open systems based on Echelon's LonWorks platform using LonMark® certified products with LNS™ plug-ins, connected to the Internet using the i.LON™1000 Internet Server, and managed using the LonMaker™ integration tool and other LNS based tools. OSA members know how to bring the full power and cost savings enabled by LonWorks systems to their customers, which include other manufacturers, building owners, plant managers, and individual end-users.

"We and our System Integrator partners are excited to join the OSA program," said Larry Zgrabik, Circon's president and CEO. "The market is demanding not only open LonWorks solutions but, more specifically, products and services from OSA members. By becoming part of the Alliance, we and our partners gain enhanced market recognition, access to larger customer opportunities, access to the latest in LonWorks technology, and a clear roadmap to the future. Circon has long believed in the value of open, LonWorks based systems. Rather than limiting our customers to Circon-developed products, we design our products to be interoperable with open LonWorks products from other vendors. By establishing partnerships with complementary best-of-breed companies Circon is able to provide the products, services and technologies required to deliver a totally integrated solution to our customers. And, we provide our customers with world-class support to ensure that the integrated systems perform to their satisfaction."

"Circon Systems is a welcome addition to the OSA Program," said Kevin Lynch, director of channel marketing at Echelon. "They are one of the LonWorks pioneers in the North American building automation market, with a single-minded focus on creating open, LonWorks based products for over 9 years that has resulted in a complete line of LonWorks enabled products that span all major building functions. Their products, channel, and vision fit perfectly with the vision and mission of the Open Systems Alliance."

Open Systems 2001 is a series of free seminars presented in 30 major cities in North America from April 17 - October 2. Circon Systems is a Gold Sponsor. Targeted across a broad spectrum of building industry players including owners, planners, architects, specifiers and engineers, the show highlights how LonWorks technology provides an open platform upon which one can create a completely integrated "smart building" network. The network can include any number of systems including access control; CCTV; communications; elevators; fire detection; heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R); landscaping and irrigation; lighting controls; monitoring and supervision/SCADA; and security. Members of the press and analyst community are welcome to attend.
