Echelon Showcases Home Networking Technology at Excite@Home's Broadband LIVE! Event(NEW YORK, NY -May 15, 2001) - Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) announced today that the company is a sponsor for Excite@Home's Broadband LIVE!, a 3-day, hands-on event for members of the press and analyst community. Broadband LIVE! is a by-invitation-only event that showcases the latest and greatest technological advances that help consumers enhance their lives. Excite@Home has wired a three-story penthouse in the NOHO area of Manhattan with a broadband connection to allow its sponsors to showcase how bigger, better, faster broadband Internet connections are contributing to the death of dial-up Internet, changing people's lives and moving into the mainstream of consumer consciousness. The show opens today and runs through Thursday, May 17th. Echelon brings home automation and control through the broadband devices installed within the home. Echelon has deployed an i.LON™ 1000 Internet Server and a WattNode power measurement device from Continental Control Systems to allow the user to remotely control, as well as monitor the energy usage of, a LonWorks® enabled microwave oven from Samsung. A LonWorks message can be sent to one lamp control module and a second will duplicate the status of the first module. The devices communicate over the home's existing power lines using Echelon's PLT-22 Power Line Transceiver.
