Echelon Corporation Strengthens Management Team

(SUNNYVALE, Calif.-September 5, 2001) - Today Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) announced a new management organization. Effective in mid-September Ken Oshman will become chairman and CEO, turning the title of president over to Bea Yormark who will become president and COO. Frits Bruggink will assume Ms. Yormark's previous role as senior vice president of marketing and sales. Russell Harris will also join the company as senior vice president of operations. Peter Mehring, who currently heads Echelon’s engineering organization, will round out the team reporting to Ms. Yormark as senior vice president of engineering. Chris Stanfield remains CFO and, as executive vice president, will report to Ken Oshman.

"With the rapid expansion of our business over this past year and even more growth in the future to look forward to, we have taken advantage of the wealth of management talent at Echelon to put a structure in place that will allow us to meet the opportunities that lie ahead," said Mr. Oshman. "Bea has been a driving force behind our growth and, over the past few years, has taken on more and more of the management of the day-to-day operations of the company. I am very enthusiastic about the broadening and strengthening of our management team that this represents, as well as the opportunity it provides me to spend more of my time building key partnerships and new opportunities that will propel our growth."

Ms. Yormark has been with Echelon since 1990. During that time she has built and lead all of Echelon’s worldwide sales and marketing efforts. She joined Echelon from Connect, Inc., an on-line information services company, where she was the company's chief operating officer. Before joining Connect, Ms. Yormark held a variety of positions including executive director of systems engineering for Telaction Corporation, director in the role of partner at Coopers & Lybrand, vice president of sales at INTERACTIVE Systems Corporation, and various staff positions at the Rand Corporation. Following the completion of her MS degree in computer science, Ms. Yormark spent one-year teaching computer science at Purdue University. In addition to her graduate degree, Ms. Yormark has a BS degree in mathematics from City College of New York. She serves on the Boards of Directors of I.D. Systems Inc. and the LonMark® Interoperability Association.

Russell Harris began his career at Convergent Technologies, Inc./Unisys Corporation as an industrial engineer, then moved into management positions and became director of IT for Worldwide Operations at Unisys. From 1991 to1996 he was director of operations at Silicon Graphics, Inc. managing inventory and logistics, IT operations for services worldwide, and training. In 1996, he joined four others and started NetDynamics as vice president of operations and worked through its sale and integration into Sun Microsystems Inc.
