First Russian Integrator Joins Echelon's Open Systems AllianceNeuHaus Group to Promote Open, Interoperable Systems Based on LonWorks® Technology(FRANKFURT, GERMANY - October 23, 2001) - At the LonWorld 2001 Conference and Exhibition, Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) announced that NeuHaus Group has joined Echelon's Open Systems Alliance (OSA) as an Echelon Authorized Network Integrator, becoming the first Russian member of the Alliance. Headquartered in Moscow and with branches in Kiev (Ukraine) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan), NeuHaus is one of the leading Russian engineering companies providing integrated solutions for power supply systems, HVAC systems, and security and access controls systems for industrial, commercial and residential customers. The OSA program brings together manufacturers, integrators, resellers, and other companies that are working to promote open systems based on Echelon's LonWorks® platform. Such systems use LonMark® certified products with LNS plug-ins, connected to the Internet using the i.LON 1000 Internet Server, and managed using the LonMaker integration tool and other LNS based tools. During the first-ever LonWorks promotional event in Russia, hosted earlier this month by NeuHaus and Echelon GmbH, Mr. Alexander Kashin, general director of NeuHaus Group, said, "Right now in Russia there is a heightened interest in new technologies and we are finding that our customers are seeking more integrated and cost-effective solutions. We see very good prospects for open systems in the Russian market. We have already had an overwhelmingly positive response from both our partners and our customers to the LonWorks based solutions we have put together thus far." One LonWorks based project that NeuHaus has recently deployed was an automated air-conditioning system in the server room of one of Russia's well-known commercial banks. Installed with the LonMaker tool, the system met the customer's requirements for a cost-effective, scalable and flexible solution. Further, the owner has the opportunity to integrate the new network into the building management system at a future date. "This is a very exciting step for both Echelon and the OSA," said Jurgen Hertel, Echelon's central European area sales manager. "The Russian market is dynamic and represents a great opportunity for smart, LonWorks based systems in buildingsand beyond. The people are enthusiastic, modern-minded and ready to embrace the latest and greatest technologies. We are pleased that NeuHaus has joined the OSA to capitalize on that opportunity." LonWorld 2001, the world's premier conference and trade show devoted solely to the LonWorks industry, is taking place through today. Further information is available at http://www.LonWorldexpo.com.
