Echelon's Open Systems Alliance Expands with Acquisition of CSI by TAC AB(ATLANTA, Georgia - January 29, 2001) - Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON) and TAC AB announced today at the 2001 International Air Conditioning Heating Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo) that the field offices of CSI Control Systems International, Inc. have become part of Echelon's Open Systems Alliance (OSA). The acquisition of CSI by TAC AB, which took place in September 2000, created the world's fourth-largest building automation company and fastest-growing global building controls supplier with more than 2,000 employees and combined revenues for the year 2000 surpassing US$300 million. As part of the alliance, TAC will co-brand its field offices as TAC LonWorks® Integrators and Echelon OSA members. Additionally, as part of TAC's continued expansion as an OSA member, the company announced that it will resell its LonMark® certified product line through companies certified as Echelon Authorized Network Integrators. "TAC is highly focused on customer solutions in the building industries - ones that are open, interoperable and LonWorks based," said Anto Budiardjo, TAC's director of marketing. "Our Building IT concept is the perfect complement to Echelon's vision as embodied by the OSA. When we looked at growth strategies on a global basis, it was clear that a worldwide, open, standards-based automation platform was a key component for satisfying the building owner's need to manage the complex information found in buildings today. The Building IT concept articulates our focus on Information Technology for Buildings. The LonWorks platform, utilizing LonMark interoperability and Echelon's LNS Network Operating System, provides exactly that." Building IT drives TAC's intent to develop, produce, and market products and open systems solutions and services that improve the indoor environment and provide the building owner with lower operating costs and more attractive properties that utilize the best technology. "We're extremely pleased that our relationship with TAC is moving forward at such a rapid pace," said Kevin Lynch, Echelon's director of channel marketing. "TAC is a truly global partner that is a world leader in both their vision of what automated buildings should be and their use of cutting-edge technologies like LonWorks to deliver best-of-breed solutions to their customers."
