Echelon Kicks Off LonWorld™ 2002 Exhibition and Conference Devoted to the LonWorks® Networking Platform

(TORONTO, CANADA – October 31, 2002) Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON), creator of the LonWorks® platform for connecting everyday devices to each other and the Internet, kicks off the two day LonWorld™ 2002 Exhibition and Conference being held in Toronto, Ontario Canada starting today. Echelon’s chairman and CEO M. Kenneth Oshman will deliver the opening keynote address followed by Scott Burroughs, worldwide Commercial Segment Manager for Device Solutions for IBM's Pervasive Computing Division. Mr. Shirou Yokota, Executive Officer and General Manager of Information Systems Division, Fuji Electric Co, Ltd., will deliver a keynote address on the second day of the event. Echelon will be exhibiting in booth #512 and will display a LonWorks controlled vehicle from Fleetwood Coach in booth #806.

The Fleetwood concept coach or "smart RV", designed with Compaq and Intel, uses the LonWorks networking platform to control the sliding living room, lighting, Samsung appliances, blinds and perimeter security – all via a single handheld wireless Compaq handheld PDA or web browser.

Echelon’s booth will feature hourly presentations about the company's technology including the FT 3120® and FT 3150® Smart Transceivers, the LPT-11 Link Power twisted pair transceiver, the latest members of the i.LON™ family of Internet Servers, the i.LON 10 and i.LON 100, and other key products.

The i.LON 10 Ethernet Adapter is well suited for price sensitive LonWorks installations where Internet connectivity is required to communicate with remote service centers or service providers. The i.LON 100 Internet Server, targeted at medium sized networks and light commercial buildings, is expected to ship later this year. It features embedded applications for alarming, scheduling, trending and energy management that are key to the commercial building and industrial automation markets.

Echelon's FT 31XX family of Smart Transceivers combine a Neuron® core with Echelon’s ANSI/EIA709.3-1999 compliant FTT-10A free-topology twisted pair transceivers. Popular in the building automation market worldwide and any automation application requiring a high-performance/cost effective twisted pair transceiver, the FT 31XX family of Smart Transceivers offers device manufacturers a high performance, reduced cost, and reduced complexity part.

The LPT-11 twisted pair transceiver, the second generation of Echelon's link power transceiver, allows manufacturers to use a single pair of wire to transmit both power and network communications. The LPT-11 eliminates the need for expensive local power wiring and is well suited for use in lightweight devices such as ballast controllers, sensors, actuators and displays.

The LonWorld event is the world’s largest event devoted to users, developers, integrators, and others supporting of the LonWorks networking platform. Produced by Messe Frankfurt GmbH, the event is geared at integrators, developers, specifiers, OEMS, energy providers, service providers, utility managers and end-users interested in, or already using, LonWorks products for building, factory, utility or transportation automaton. The LonWorld 2002 event is co-located with ISH 2002 (The International Trade Fair for Sanitation, Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning), providing even more opportunities to network with manufacturers from the complimentary industries of kitchen and bath, plumbing, heating and air conditioning—in one venue.
