Kathleen Bloch Joins Echelon as Senior Vice President and General Counsel

(SAN JOSE, CA - January 13, 2003) - Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON)), a leading provider of open control network solutions worldwide, announced today that Kathy Bloch will join the company as senior vice president and general counsel effective February 3rd, 2003.

Ms. Bloch joins Echelon from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, where she was a partner with a practice in the corporate finance and securities areas. She represented both privately held and public companies in diverse technology markets, as well as in the biotech, manufacturing, retail and financial services industries. Prior to joining Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati she was a partner with the San Francisco and Los Angeles offices of Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton. Ms. Bloch received her law degree from Stanford Law School in 1981 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (emphasis in Finance) from the University of Southern California in 1978, where she was elected to Beta Gamma Sigma and graduated with honors.
