Toshifumi "Tommy" Matsumoto Named President of Echelon Japan, K.K.

(San Jose, CA– June 14, 2004) - Echelon Corporation (NASDAQ: ELON), the creator of the LonWorks® device networking platform for connecting everyday devices to each other and the Internet, today announced that Toshifumi "Tommy" Matsumoto has been named President of Echelon Japan, K.K.

"Tommy brings an enormous amount of market knowledge, business experience, and networking expertise to Echelon," said Ken Oshman, Echelon's chairman and CEO. "We have worked closely with Tommy for some time on an advisory level and we feel very fortunate that he has decided to join us to run our Japanese business. Tommy has played an important role in establishing Japan's networking infrastructure, which he continues today. We look forward to working with Tommy toward ever greater success for Echelon and the continued adoption of the LonWorks device networking platform in Japan."

Mr. Matsumoto is currently a Trustee of the Japan Network Information Center (JPNIC) and Chairman of the Asia Pacific Networking Group (APNG). Prior to joining Echelon, he was President of AT&T Communications (Japan) and Managing Director of AT&T Wholesale Japan. Mr. Matsumoto joined AT&T Wholesale from Concert ICS where he served as President and Managing Director. Prior to that, he was with AT&T Japan where he was Vice-President and Director. He joined AT&T Japan from AT&T JENS, where he served in varying capacities including Director & General Manager of the Sales Division, General Manager of the Internet Division and General Manager of the Information System Planning Division. Mr. Matsumoto started his career at CJK Corporation working in sales and business development. He graduated from the University of Hiroshima in 1973 with a degree in electronics.
