What's a Transceiver?
A transceiver combines a transmitter and a receiver in one unit. When embedded into a device, a transceiver allows the device to communicate with other devices that are embedded with compatible transceivers. In other words, a device with a transceiver and the appropriate logic becomes intelligent to talk to other intelligent devices, allowing it to implement higher-level applications.
Echelon's smart transceiver integrates a transceiver and a Neuron® network processor core in a single package to create a lower-cost, higher-performance chip.
Besides lower costs, smart transceivers offer other benefits over the combination of a Neuron Processor and a separate transceiver. Read all about it in the FT Smart Transceivers and PL Smart Transceivers sections.
