FTXL 3190 Free Topology Transceiver and FPGA Solution

Together, the FTXL 3190 transceiver/media access controller and an Altera® Cyclone© II (or later) field programmable gate array (FPGA) provide high-performance LonWorks® control networking features for building system controllers.

  • High-performance control networking solution for Free Topology Twisted-Pair applications
  • Up to 4,096 network variables; Up to 200 receive and 2,500 concurrent send transactions; Up to 4,096 address table entries
  • Dynamic network variable support
  • Fast time-to-market with the LonWorks API and protocol stack ported to a Nios® II embedded processor running on a Cyclone II or III device

For complete specifications, refer to the FTXL 3190 Transceiver datasheet (PDF).

Transmission speed: 78 kilobits per second

Network wiring: 24 to 16AWG twisted pair; see the user’s guide (PDF) or Junction Box and Wiring Guidelines (PDF) for qualified cable types

Supported topologies: Polarity-insensitive free-topology star, daisy-chain, bus, loop, or mixed wiring

Network length in free topology:

  • 1,000m (3,280 ft) maximum total wire with one repeater
  • 500m (1,640 ft) maximum total wire with no repeaters
  • 500m (1,640 ft) maximum device-to-device distance

Network length in doubly-terminated bus topology:

  • 5,400m (17,710 feet) with one repeater
  • 2,700m (8,850 feet) with no repeaters

Maximum stub length in doubly-terminated bus topology: 3m (9.8 ft)

Network termination: 1 terminator in free topology; 2 terminators in bus topology

Physical layer repeater information: The FTXL 3190 transceiver cannot be used to implement a physical layer repeater. In the event that the limits on the number of transceivers or total wire distance are exceeded, FTT-10A transceivers may be used to create physical layer repeaters.

Worldwide communications standards:

  • ISO/IEC 14908-1 and 14908-2
  • ANSI 709.1 and ANSI 709.3

Operating voltage: 5V

System clock: 10 MHz

Input/Output: 11 I/O pins with 34 programmable standard I/O models

Operating temperature range: -40°C to +85°C
