System Software
NES System Software deploys, provisions, configures, audits, diagnoses, and retrieves data from devices operating within the NES Smart Metering System.
Data services include receipt and distribution of events that are reported by devices on the system, and collection of information such as meter register data, load profiles, and power quality data.
- Proven to scale to a 5-million meter network; Uses any standard IP network to communicate with NES Data Concentrators, Edge Control Nodes, and other utility and non-utility assets
- SOA with SOAP/XML enables easy integration with utility middleware, meter data-management systems, and Web services-aware applications and infrastructure from leading providers
- Two-way grid intelligence for a more stable, reliable, and smarter grid; Visibility for lowering grid infrastructure lifecycle costs
- Backward-compatible and extensible architecture protects investment
- Supports meter assignment and commissioning; large-scale demand response and load control; automated collection of events, alarms, load profiles, and meter-billing, demand, and power-quality data; instant diagnostics, power-outage detection verification and restoration, secure remote disconnect/reconnect services
For a more complete description, refer to the NES System Software datasheet (PDF).
Automated commands: Allows grouping of meters through attributes and hierarchies to efficiently perform commands over subsets of meters
Timing control: Maintains accurate system time in meters and data concentrators
Communications: Support for standard IP-based WAN systems, wired, wireless, 2G, 3G, 4G
Software integration: Compatible with utility middleware and applications using standards-based design such as XML, .NET, IP
Scalability: Runs on a single laptop or scales for mass deployments exceeding 5 million devices with security-hardened, balanced, redundant data-center hosting

Edge Control Node
An open, secure, scalable hardware and software platform that bridges the low- and medium voltage distribution system. It connects smart grid devices to utility enterprise software, and its published interfaces can be used to build function- and geography-specific software and wired or wireless expansion cards.
NES Data Concentrator
A smart grid networking control node that commissions, updates, and gathers data from compatible smart meters and other smart grid devices. It reports trouble conditions, ensures security and communications reliability, and compresses data before forwarding to conserve bandwidth.
Element Manager
Browser-based network-analysis software that provides visual statistics, automated-network and user-rights management, auditing, logging, and time-saving diagnostics for millions of smart grid devices. Element Manager makes it possible to solve problems in real time.
NES Smart Meters
ANSI and IEC commercial and residential meters with extensive metering capabilities, software-controlled disconnect switch, and information display. NES smart meters have been field-proven to be 99.5% reliable.
NES Control Point Module
An embedded module that enables manufacturers to add our proven power line technology and Open Smart Grid Protocol to smart grid devices, such as solar panel micro-inverters, load-control modules, power-quality sensors, pool pumps, and electric-vehicle chargers.
