FT 3120/FT 3150 Free Topology Smart TransceiversHigh-performance, low-cost solutions for twisted-pair networks! The FT 3120® and FT 3150® Free Topology Smart Transceivers integrate a Neuron® 3120 or Neuron 3150 network processor core, respectively, with a 78kbps free topology twisted-pair transceiver to create a low-cost smart transceiver on a chip. Combined with our high-performance FT-X1 or FT-X2 Communication Transformer, these two transceivers set new benchmarks for performance and robustness in low-cost LonWorks® nodes in for building, industrial, transportation, home, and utility automation applications. The Free Topology Smart Transceivers support polarity-insensitive star, bus, daisy-chain, loop, or combination topology, so you can install wiring however you want. Free topology wiring not only reduces node installation costs; it also simplifies network expansion by eliminating restrictions on wire routing, splicing, and node placement.
The FT 3120 Free Topology Smart TransceiverEssentially a complete system-on-a-chip, this transceiver is perfect for cost-sensitive, small-size designs that need up to 4Kbytes of application code. The Neuron 3120 core operates at up to 40MHz, and includes 4Kbytes of EEPROM and 2Kbytes of RAM. The LonWorks system firmware is embedded in an on-chip ROM. The application code is stored in the embedded EEPROM memory and may be updated over the network. The FT 3150 Free Topology Smart TransceiversBetter suited for larger applications, this transceiver provides a memory bus to address up to 58Kbytes of external memory. The FT 3150 includes a 20MHz Neuron 3150 core with 2Kbytes of RAM and 0.5Kbytes of on-board EEPROM. Learn more about the Flash devices compatible with the FT 3150 Free Topology Smart Transceiver.
Flexible I/O, Simple ConfigurationThe FT 3120 and FT 3150 Free Topology Smart Transceivers provide 11 I/O pins, which may be configured to operate in one or more of 34 predefined standard input/output modes. Combining a wide range of I/O models with two on-board timer/counters let the FT 3120 and FT 3150 transceivers interface to application circuits with minimal external logic or software development. Easy Interface to Any Host MCUThe FT 3120 and FT 3150 Free Topology Smart Transceivers can also be easily interfaced to other host MCUs via our ShortStack or MIP firmware. When used with either product, the smart transceiver allows any OEM product with a host microcontroller to quickly and inexpensively become a networked, Internet-accessible device. Advanced Network Noise ProtectionThe FT 3120 and FT 3150 transceivers are supplied with a patent-pending external communication transformer. This enables operation in the presence of high-frequency common mode noise on unshielded twisted-pair networks. Properly designed nodes can meet the rigorous Level 3 requirements of EN 61000-4-6 without needing a network isolation choke. The transformer also offers outstanding immunity from magnetic noise. A typical FT 3120 or FT 3150-based node requires a power source, crystal, and an I/O interface to the device being controlled. Here's a typical FT 3120 / FT 3150-based node:
