Residential Lighting

Residential lighting systems that offer custom scene configuration and dimming features are usually available only through custom installers, and often require the use of complex software. But now, manufacturers are adding Echelon control technologies to LED lights, making lighting control systems more flexible and affordable.

Why Add Controls?

  • Create scenes for various activities in your home with push-button ease.
  • Change lighting tones from warm to cool based on time of day and user preference.
  • Add accent lighting under cabinets and glass shelves.
  • Use color creatively to match or contrast wall colors.

Why Use Echelon Technology?

  • Reduce installation and maintenance costs. Use the same cables for power and control.
  • Fast and easy installation. Use the self-organizing feature within the Pyxos networking protocol or the Interoperable Self-Installation (ISI) for LonWorks Power Line technology.
  • No complex software. Reconfigure scenes easily.
  • Simplify wiring. Easier than traditional custom lighting installations.
  • No wiring topology restrictions. Supports free topology and polarity-insensitive wiring.
  • Automatic fault-detection through two-way communication.

The Pyxos Platform

The Pyxos platform is well suited for accent/shelf/under-cabinet lighting. It's also appropriate for general illumination in new construction projects since it lets you send more than 20W per node of power on the same cable used for networking. Pyxos FT technology lets you create a master-slave network with deterministic response times of 25ms or less and network throughput of 312.5Kbps. Pyxos networks use a twisted pair of wires as physical media and have cyclic redundancy check error detection, as well as 2-bit forward error correction built into the protocol.

Pyxos High-Power Link Power

The new Pyxos High-Power Link Power can supply ample power for residential LED lighting over the same cable that's used for control networking. High-Power Link Power uses low-cost Romex or equivalent 3-wire flat or twisted cable, which keeps system costs low.

LonWorks Power Line Technology

LonWorks Power Line technology is a great fit for general illumination in retrofit applications where installing new wires is not an option. LonWorks technology is a peer-to-peer technology with distributed intelligence across the network devices. When power line is used as the physical media, LonWorks technology lets you send control signals over the AC mains lines over very long distances (up to 2 miles on unpowered lines). It also enables true plug and play with Interoperable Self Installation (ISI).
